China made significant progress in quantum computing infrastructure with the rollout of the Origin SL1000 dilution refrigerator in Hefei City, developed by the Anhui Quantum Computing Engineering Research Centre. This refrigerator is essential for creating the ultra-cold environments needed for superconducting quantum computers. The device operates by using a mix of helium-3 and helium-4 isotopes to achieve temperatures colder than outer space, crucial for maintaining the operation of 100+ bit quantum chips. The Origin SL1000 offers a substantial improvement in cooling capacity, which showcases China's growing capabilities in dilution refrigeration technology, and in turn, growing helium demand from the region.
