The BLM's Cliffside helium facility has received authorisation for a safe plant restart. Whilst this is good news for the helium market it still may be a while until this translates into increased helium availability in the market. First the plant will need to demonstrate that is can safely be brought back on line to operating capacity. Secondly the pressure in the helium pipeline that takes the crude helium to various processing facilities is critically low at 533psig, which means that once the plant restarts, the first task will be to repressurise/refill the pipeline. Furthermore there have been various hiccups with the plant over the last few years so there is the risk that that there are issues with start-up or other issues after it resumes.
